Tsuki flinched at the sigh. He knew he was being picky! But he had a good reason- one he still wasn’t sure if he could inform Takeru about. For starters, this place was probably the worst place to reveal his secret. And secondly, the thing itself might scare Takeru off.
Sinking his face into his scarf a little, Tsuki sauntered over to the racks.
Maybe he should just pick anything that isn’t black and call it a day?
“Hmmm…”
But the temptation to pick black-.
Takeru hung back, deciding to give Tsuki a little space in hopes that’d help make this decision his own – even if it was probably a good thing Tsuki hadn’t looked back either. The dull, unimpressed expression Takeru was trying his best not to show wasn’t exactly well hidden as he’d watched on.
Not that Takeru had ever really enjoyed clothes shopping anyway, but who knew picking something that wasn’t black that Tsuki felt like he’d enjoy would be such a chore.
“ Well? Do you see anything? ” Because the next step was Takeru stepping up to pick something out himself and he was already eying an orange hoodie that would’ve looked okay with Tsuki.
“Hmmm… I guess that’s true. I could still probably use one when Winter hits though…”
Tsuki grabbed his fringe thoughtfully. This would be much easier if he had actually told Takeru the cause of his fragility. Now he probably sounded incredibly picky and difficult.
“I don’t really want a short sleeve,” Because his scars were still visible despite being pretty faint, “And I’d prefer something that’s baggy… Do you think they’d have something like that here?”
“Okay, so no short sleeves, and nothing too small wither. I guess we can still work with that-”
Tsuki was being incredibly picky, but Takeru would’ve been lying to himself if he’d said he hadn’t expected it either. Tsuki’s taste in clothes was already pretty narrow as it was, but they were here to fix that– or at least, try to fix that anyway.
Even if they had to actually find something Tsuki would at least agree to try on first; as long as it wasn’t something black or white.
“How about we go look at something over there then?” Takeru motioned toward a small section near the back of the store with a light sigh. The racks had more black colored clothes scattered around than what he would’ve liked, but…maybe Takeru could trust Tsuki not be attracted to the dark colors right at first.
“Sorry,” Moonphaser was quick to apologise, “Crescent can get a bit too excited.”
Not that he could really blame the A.I this time. After all, it had been a while since they last got their lead. Playmaker seemed like a reliable source of information to go to.
After much struggling, Crescent would eventually give up, sinking back into the duel disk and appearing as his eyeball form. Looking not so pleased. But at least he was quiet!
“Uh, good question. The latter is probably best, since I don’t really have the time to hang in my tent anymore.”
“Then sending you his contact info it is! Knowing him, he probably would’ve been too busy to stop by your tent anyway. I mean, unless you tricked him into showing up out of the blue somehow.” Soulburner would follow the retort up with an amused laugh before he lifted the arm with his duel disk attached and poked on the small screen.
“I guess this way, you can just send him an email saying you wanna meet up or something-”
Well, if Soulburner could remember how to get to the contacts list on his duel disk exactly, that was. Flame had showed him once before, but in everything he’d been through since, recalling which menus to flip through just to make it there seemed easier said than done – but at least Moonphaser would get to witness Soulburner aiming the most confused expression down at his wrist as he gave a puppy-like head tilt toward the device.
Little did Takeru know, Tsuki was easily swayed because it was Takeru he was talking to!
Stepping into the shop, Tsuki would look almost lost. It’s not like he could pick out a lot of clothes and it wasn’t because he was picky! The clothing had to be long sleeved and it had to be puffy enough to cover up the space rock in his chest.
“Hmmmmmmmmmm…”
A long hum. Until eventually, he’d lay his eyes on some turtlenecks.
“Do you think I’d look good one of those?”
“Won’t something like that be kinda hot though…?”
And for once, Takeru wasn’t talking about Tsuki looking cute in an outfit either – he really had meant that the turtleneck Tsuki had pointed out looked too warm and uncomfortable for this time of year. Takeru might’ve been a serial hoodie wearer, but at least he could always slip a hoodie off at a moment’s notice.
“I guess some of those colors are okay though,” he’d shrug at the assortment before waving off one side of the display completely. “Just as long as you stay away from that rack.”
It might be a hassle, but it meant more time with Takeru and Tsuki was never opposed to that. So grabbing a hold of Takeru’s arm in an affectionate manner, Tsuki pointed his finger skyward.
“Awwrighty, lead the way!”
Swooon~
So it’d been that easy, huh?
Takeru would have to remember that – just offer Tsuki a compromise and he could be pretty easy to sway, even if Takeru was pretty sure Tsuki wouldn’t have been so excited if he’d known Takeru wasn’t looking for style as much as much as he was just a color.
Thankfully though, they’d only have to walk a few blocks up the street before another shop with a little more variety in clothing came into view.
“Alright then, we’ll start here.” Which was hopefully a silent clue for Tsuki to start looking. “You have to pick out at least one thing somewhere, but it can’t be black or white. Think you can handle that?”
“I …don’t see what’s wrong with black and white… But I guess I should try on some colours.”
Takeru said pink looked good on him earlier, right?
Tsuki gave his fringe a contemplative tug. It was a bit out of his comfort zone. He felt like wearing anything other than black or white would make him stand out.
“I would’ve asked if you knew any other places but you’re not that familiar with Den City yet, are you?”
It was fairly big. Tsuki lived here all his life and still didn’t know all the places.
“Nope! But if you trust me to not get you too lost, then we could always take a look around the places I do know.”
Though, if Tsuki knew Takeru like he thought he did, then he’d know that’d mean the sections of the city closest to Takeru’s typical route to school. Still though, Den City was pretty big. Surely they could find a clothing shop to look around in somewhere near their school.
Even if they had to venture inside one of Den City’s ten thousand department stores.
“What do you say? We spend thirty minutes looking around somewhere I pick and if we can’t find something, then we’ll come back here. Deal?”
Tsuki blinked. Of course he picked up on the tone! But he didn’t see anything wrong with the monochrome aesthetic that this shop seemed to have. He’d step back though, and give a contemplative stare.
“Mm, well, do you have any better ideas?”
He didn’t mean to sound sassy, but Tsuki genuinely didn’t know where to start!
“You mean besides trying to find something that’s not black or white?”
Because that was honestly the one thing Takeru would’ve hoped Tsuki would try to avoid here. They’d been talking about buying him new looking outfits; not different versions of the same ones he had! No matter how good Tsuki looked with them-
“You wanted something different, right? Maybe we could try looking somewhere that’s…not here first?” Takeru paused to glance through the shop’s frontentrance, “I mean, this place sells more than just these. Don’t it?”
“Sure! I think I saw some clothes shops down towards where all the unique cafes are that seem really empty all the time. I’m pretty sure they sell hoodies.”
They were shops he would give a passing glance to, but he never had a reason or even the guts to step in. It was probably time to change that though!
So following the path, Tsuki would promptly lead the way until they’d eventually arrive at a shabby looking shop with trendy clothes lined up outside. It was quite the interesting contrast, Tsuki had to admit. Most of the items there were monochrome.
It’d be a clothing store that’d leave Takeru blinking at the outside. The items that scattered the display windows and spilled out onto the sidewalk seemed like a perfect match for Tsuki, but…weren’t they supposed to be looking for something that wasn’t so black or white?
“So, uh…this is really where you want to start?” Tsuki could probably pick up from his tone that Takeru was definitely skeptical, so he’d quickly cover that with a small shrug.
“Not that there’s anything against this place, but…you sure we’ll find anything different than what you’re already wearing in here?”
↠ This is independent roleplay blog for Takeru Homura from Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS. He's roleplayed as mostly canon with his default verse being post-anime canon.
↠ Because VRAINS is still a recently concluded anime, my portrayal of Takeru, his headcanons, and his default relationships with certain characters are still subject to change. Changes in his canon, however, won't affect anything involving him in AU verses.
↠ Note that most interactions here will take place with Takeru as he is offline in the real world, but depending on plot and whether your muse can (or wants to) access Link VRAINS, interacting with Takeru as 'Soulburner' is also possible.
↠ However, unless Takeru specifically makes it known or it's plotted beforehand, your muse shouldn't know the connection between Takeru and Soulburner! Takeru is very careful to make sure only a select few know about his online persona and those outside those select few are often kept in the dark for a reason.
Triggers.
↠ While they’re not brought up often unless Takeru is specifically talking of his past, common (possibly triggering) themes with Takeru involve the mention of kidnapping, torture, electrocution, starvation, parental death, car accidents, and gangs/street fighting.
↠ Note that Takeru also suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from his involvement in the Lost Incident; an experiment Takeru was kidnapped for at a young age that caused him to be subjected to nothing short of torture for six months. While eventually being rescued and being in perfect physical health now, the Incident left a lasting impression Takeru is still trying to work his way through.
↠ Though he’s had help coping with his traumatic past, Takeru’s never had any professional counseling treating his PTSD or the loss of his parents. His most obvious symptoms include nightmares, flashbacks, self-isolation, aggressive behavior, guilt, and loss of interest in daily activities.
↠ Takeru very rarely breaks down in front of anyone other than those he’s closest to though, so full scale panic attacks from his PTSD are rare outside Takeru’s family and close friends. If anything above is triggering to you personally though, then I'd recommend avoiding these topics around Takeru altogether.
Main RP partners / Exclusives.
↠ While I'll always be up for rping with duplicates of the same muse, this blog does practice having main roleplay partners! These are typically the muses Takeru will go to first or reference in specific posts, headcanons, and certain plots.
↠ 'Mains' usually develop through constant interaction, both OOC and IC. If we interact a lot, then there's a very good possibility I'll automatically consider you a 'main' for my muse.
↠ That said, I very rarely (if ever) practice exclusives. I may have partners I prefer more quickly than others and may have exclusive relationship statuses where shipping's involved, but I won't ever turn down an interaction just because I'm already threading with another of that muse!
Shipping.
↠ Takeru is currently (very selectively) multiship!
↠ He's also in an exclusive ship with Lita’s Kiku, meaning that while I’m always open to interacting with other Kiku muses, Lita’s is the only Kiku that Takeru will be in an active romantic relationship with.
↠ My preferred ship for Takeru is Entrustshipping, but the ships I'm comfortable exploring for Takeru as a whole are: Firestorm (Yusaku/Takeru), Entrust (Takeru/Kiku), Recoil (Ryoken/Takeru), Phoenix (Takeru/Aoi), and Disaster (Yusaku/Takeru/Ryoken).
↠ Basic shipping rules still apply though! Don't force ship, I'll drop threads if you do, don't assume I'm shipping with your muse unless we've discussed it before, all ships are in their own verse unless plotted otherwise, chemistry between our muses is usually a must, ect.
↠ There's more to 'shipping' than romance though, so I'm always open to developing something between our muses that isn't them just falling for each other! friendships yo, takeru needs all of 'em.
Activity.
↠ This blog is selective! Meaning I actively follow those I'm interested in roleplaying with and am more likely to interact with mutual followers than blogs I'm not following.
↠ I do have a life outside tumblr RP, so don't expect me to be around my blogs every second of the day. I'm usually good about replying to threads within a few days, but don't expect every draft to be done everyday.
↠ My blog does post replies on a queued schedule sometimes when I have work or other activities that keep me from being online that day. These threads are usually marked with a queue tag.
↠ Keep in mind that this blog isn't the only one I manage either! I run severel blogs within the YGO RP community, but this one, my Yuu boys, and Yusaku are the three I keep active most often.
↠ Takeru is currently my main muse though, so if you need to get in contact with me, sending IMs to @soulburnings is your best bet!
Following.
↠ To keep it simple: if I follow you, I definitely wanna rp with you!
↠ That said, I also like to keep my dash clean and relevant to my fandom. I'm selective with who I follow, but if you're obviously putting effort into your muse, then I'm usually glad to see you on my dash!
↠ I'll occasionally do random starters for followers, but don't expect them.
↠ The best way to start up an interaction with me is to like one of my starter calls or send in a meme! I reblog these pretty regularlly, but jumping into my IMs is also a good way to start something too!
NSFW.
↠ While Takeru is still canonly underage, the mun behind the blog is 21+, so I'm cool with rping more adult themes in a setting where it makes sense.
↠ I'm not really into writing smut outside RP partners I've known OOC for forever however, but that doesn't mean I won't explore other areas of NSFW topics either. Violence, trauma, and other touchy subjects I'm typically okay with including in threads with a little plotting.
↠ Anything even remotely close to sexual NSFW is kept in private and off this blog though, so you'll never see these on dash from me. The topics might be referenced in asks and threads in verses where those apply, but the actual acts won't ever see a place here.
↠ I don't have any specific triggers I need tagged, but if I reblog something without tags and it's obviously triggering for you, let me know!
Icons / Artwork.
↠ 95% of the art found on my blog isn't my own unless I've said otherwise. I usually try to keep credit attached when possible, though most of my source material is pulled from official and canon sources.
↠ However, all icons, graphics, and blog pages were edited myself, so please don't take things from my blog without at least asking first!
Hey there! I'm Kasa and I'm the dork behind this portrayal of Takeru! I'm a girl living on the east coast of the US who probably spends more time around her computer than she should!
When I'm not on tumblr managing my RP blogs, I enjoy art, design, animation, making graphics, video games, and spending time with my pets. I know a thing or two about how to play the card game my muses live and breathe, so I play that a little on the side, too; though most of my attention is spent on just collecting the cards now days.
I’m a long time resident of the YGO RPC though, so chances are you’ve probably seen some of my older blogs around if you've looked. I've rp'ed muses from most of the YGO spinoff series, though my favorites are definitely Arc-V and Vrains.
Overall, I'm just here to have fun, so don't feel too intimidated to say 'hi' to me! I promise I’m one of the easiest people to get along with that you’ll ever meet.
Closed off, rude, unmotivated, and hard to understand, Takeru Homura seems like your typical delinquent; though few know that under his tough exterior there's a reason for his stubborn behavior. Takeru's survived a lot in his short 16 years alive, though getting him to talk about himself is another story entirely. Honestly, he’d rather just nap at the pier and avoid anything with life, especially if it reminds him of that time.
Takeru is a new transfer student at Den City High. He’s outgoing, friendly, and seemingly full of life, though the school and its classes were the least of Takeru’s concerns when he picked his destination there. He’s in Den City on another mission besides his studies; specifically to partner up with ‘Playmaker’ to tackle the people who caused him to suffer 10 year prior. He’s here to reinvent himself, and if dueling is the only way to change his dismal future, then he’ll fight to the end.
A fiery duelist in both name and spirit, Soulburner is Takeru’s online persona inside the virtual reality world of LINK VRAINS. He’s competitive and outgoing; fierce but protective with a deck that’s just as hot and heated as his avatar suggests. He’s made a pact with Playmaker to do whatever it takes to save both LINK VRAINS and their Ignis partners all while making a point that he’s not afraid of the people who tortured him 10 years before.
He’s suffered, but now’s the time to face his past and change his future.
Default main verse. It's been three months since Yusaku left to settle things with Ai. Trusting that his friend made the best decision he could under the circumstances, Takeru makes his own decision to finally leave Den City and move back home. Now back in the countryside, he's reunited with his grandparents and Kiku, somehow settling back into his old life like he never left. With his past dealt with the best he could manage though, maybe now Takeru can finally take a step toward the future he's been yearning for.
Still choosing to visit Link VRAINS, Takeru keeps his 'Soulburner' account active—even going as far as to convince Kiku to join him in the VR world. Though he wouldn't call himself much of a guide, he's taken to showing Kiku around this new world he's found, hopefully giving her the confidence to enjoy it right along with him. He doesn't think she'll take up dueling much; Kiku's never been the type to like fighting, but there's still no other place he'd want her to be.
Maybe someday he'll get to introduce her to his friends here, too.
An artificial being given life as nothing more than an experiment to bigger means, Codename: Soulburner is an elaborate AI with one purpose in this world: to see if an artificial life form can be successfully implanted into human society without detection. Awaking before he was deemed ‘ready’ by SOL Tech's research team though, Soulburner had nothing but failure pinned on him from the start.
Still confined to the inside of his isolation tank, he meets Makoto Takuma, a simple programmer hired to maintain his coding. She's one of the only people in the lab willing to interact with him like a being and not prod at him like the rat most think he is. He quickly learns to trust her, which especially comes in handy after his release into the world at large. A.I!Soulburner AU.

---
True to his online persona, Takeru himself is a passionate teen who will do anything for the small group of friends he's managed to make since his decision to face his past. He's fiery, out going, friendly, and definitely not afraid to stick his nose into places if there’s information around he’s interested in. He’s curious, but also respectful to those he puts above himself and won’t hesitate to protect those he cares about.
Before learning of his connection to Playmaker and the fight against the Knights of Hanoi in LINK VRAINS, Takeru was a shut in. Completely uninterested in life after swearing off Dueling and his ambition to move forward, he was rude, guarded, and closed off to the point where skipping school and avoiding any kind of social contact were the norm. He wasn’t above using his strength and intimidation as a trained martial artist to get what info he needed, even if he never intentionally hurt anyone for the sake of himself.
For ten years after being saved from an incident that wasn't anything short of torture, Takeru was labeled a delinquent by most; though less for causing anyone trouble and more so for his distant and disconnected attitude. Hard to talk to with an even harder to deal with personality, Takeru was painfully stuck in the overwhelming thoughts of his past until Flame, his Ignis, revealed the path his life was supposed to take.
To face his fears and move forward—that's what he was meant to do.
More apparent now than ever, Takeru is a real duelist with a heart of fire and gold. No matter his attitude, he’ll always put his friends and family before himself and isn’t beyond leaping in to any situation to be the hero when someone he cares for is in trouble.
A phoenix in mind and soul, Takeru's dedicated himself to reinventing himself and moving past the trauma he's been dealing with for most of his life.
At a Glance:
↠ Similar to Yusaku, Takeru has a certain competitive edge for dueling. To him, life and dueling are one and the same and he's currently using the game as a way to reinvent himself and recover after the Lost Incident.
↠ Though admitting he's 'recovered from his trauma', Takeru still suffers from occasional PTSD flashbacks and nightmares. These aren’t nearly as severe or as debilitating as they once were now that Takeru's come to terms with his past, but they are something he's still having to deal with.
↠ Takeru is well trained in three different types of martial arts: Judo, Jujitsu, and Aikido as taught to him by his grandfather.
↠ As noted by Flame and Kiku, Takeru isn't well versed with technology. In fact, he often needs help navigating through devices and simple things like web pages or sophisticated systems can easily trip him up. This doesn't mean he can't learn though!
↠ Takeru has a fear of ghosts to the point where just the mention of them around him usually makes him uneasy. He's easily spooked by them and Halloween is easily his least favorite holiday because of this.
↠ Unlike most duelists with access to LINK VRAINS, Takeru still uses an old style duel disk that many consider 'out dated' per the technology available.
↠ More (and definitely more in depth) headcanons can be found in Takeru's headcanon tag here.
LINK VRAINS Profile:
Account Name: Soulburner; ソウルバーナー
Deck Type: Salamangreats
Ace Monster: Salamangreat Heatleo
Play Style: Beatdown
Skill: Burning Draw
Dueling Record: 8-2-1 (win-draw-lose)
Personality
A fiery duelist in both name and spirit, Soulburner is Takeru’s online persona inside the virtual reality world of LINK VRAINS. True to his offline self, Soulburner is a intense player with an ingrained spirit for dueling and a deck as hot and heated as his avatar suggests. He’s competitive and ambitious; determined and energetic; outgoing and enthusiastic, but he’s not a duelist without a cause either.
Entering the VR world in a flurry of flames, Soulburner made a pact with Playmaker to do whatever it takes to save both LINK VRAINS and their Ignis partners from destruction all while making a point that he’s not afraid to fight against the people who tortured him 10 years before. Identified as one of the six victims unfortunately caught up in the Lost Incident, Soulburner has more than a target painted on his own back, too.
It’ll take more than a determined spirit, a fiery deck, and a friendship with Playmaker to fight off the forces set on defeating both him and his partnership with Flame. Thankfully, Soulburner is up for the fight. He’s suffered, but he’s more determined than ever to overcome his obstacles and change his future for the better.
Despite his frequency to visit the online world itself, Takeru’s identity inside LINK VRAINS is mostly kept a secret from those in the real world aside from a few select people. Unless he makes someone aware that Soulburner and him are one and the same, they’ll most likely never know.
At a Glance:
↠ As useful as Soulburner's Skill, 'Burning Draw', is during a Speed Duel, using the technique puts noticeable strain on Soulburner himself. As noted by Flame, it's a skill that drains his LP to near depletion, and though not usually dangerous, it clearly takes its toll.
↠ Despite Takeru being terrible with technology in real life, as Soulburner he's able to access, log in, and log out of LINK VRAINS easily. Though he's often with Playmaker and anything technical is usually taken care of by him, interaction inside and navigation around the digital world surprisingly aren't problems for Soulburner.
↠ Despite this though, Soulburner is still easily tripped up by online things that catch him off guard. He's either easily amused or easily confused by complicated events and items that aren't at or near beginner level.
↠ Where his computer skills fall short though, his dueling skill take over. Soulburner might be a rookie when it comes to anything online-based, but his dueling skill are on par with some of LINK VRAINS' best.
↠ Inside Link VRAINS, Soulburner's biggest role models are Playmaker, Blue Angel/Blue Girl/Blue Maiden, and Go Onizuka. They're the heroes who stepped up and fought the Knights of Hanoi—the people who made him suffer over 10 years ago—when he was still too caught up with trying to fight his own demons offline.
↠ Post-canon, Soulburner is easily recognized as one of Playmaker's teammates, though Soulburner still wouldn't claim himself 'popular' at all. He still looks up to Playmaker as a hero and would rather everyone else do the same, too.
↠ Soulburner still logs on to Link VRAINS post-canon, but instead of logging on for a fight, it's strictly for fun. He's come to enjoy being in the VR world, especially now that he's got someone else in tow—Kiku!

General Information
Name: Flame
Species: Ignis
Attribute: Fire
Origin: Takeru Homura
Age: Around 10 years
Personality
Normally level headed and blunt, Flame is one of six Ignis who originated from the torture and mistreatment of the children involved in the Lost Incident. His origin is Takeru Homeru, and like his name suggests, Flame is the Ignis associated with the Fire attribute—a fact Flame never seems to let anyone forget.
Aside from his occasional quirks though, Flame is typically very straightforward to the point of being sarcastic. He’s calculative and quick witted, often being the voice of confidence behind Takeru’s reasoning when his own heart starts to slip. Flame was the reason for Takeru’s rejuvenation to fight for his future and often urges Takeru on when he feels like his human partner needs a push.
Despite his even personality when compared to Yusaku’s AI partner, Ai, Flame does have a tendency to be overconfident at times; often flaunting his and Soulburner’s skills in front of opponents and over exaggerating words to make them seem more than what they really are. He’s proud of Takeru and how far he’s come, but explaining what his name’s kanji means even after Takeru’s heard the story 37 times before will never not grate on the teen’s nerves.
Much like the other Ignis though, Flame has a hard time understanding human sarcasm and can easily be tripped up by rhetorical questions to the point of taking most sayings literally. Despite believing in the good nature of human beings, Flame understands that there are both good and bad people; though coexisting with both sides is something him and Takeru have both agreed they want.
Flame can be a bit prideful and often ignores Takeru when he’s called out on his behavior. Though he’s an artificial intelligence, he’s capable of feeling a broad spectrum of human emotions, including embarrassment, sadness, and anger. He’s childish to a degree and has a slight fascination with human technology.

↠ Flame was the originator of Takeru's Salamangreats and gifted the deck to his origin just prior to his accessing Link VRAINS as Soulburner. The archetype is all Fire attribute, a direct link to the Fire Ignis himself.

A shy and easily over looked classmate of his, Takeru’s come to appreciate the company of Tsuki as someone fun to hang out with after class. Often seen venturing to Cafe Nagi, other nearby cafes, and whatever famiresu catches their attention that day, their near daily outings have almost turned into a routine. Maybe so much so that Takeru actually looks forward to his time around Tsuki. Only time will tell if their lowkey ‘dates’ will ever turn into something more.
